That included a session with the Genius Bar, where he was told the grim news: the MacBook was beyond repair, and the data was likely gone forever. Their recommendation? Contact a data recovery specialist (read: expensive and time-consuming), or accept a replacement Mac under warranty — minus the irreplaceable data, of course.

Frustrated and desperate, he reached out to the shop where he originally purchased the MacBook, still under warranty. Sadly, they weren’t much help either. “We can swap the Mac,” they said, “but you’ll lose everything.” Not exactly reassuring when you’ve got a Glastonbury crowd waiting to hear your beats.
